More Fighting over Michael Jackson’s NEVERLAND

Foreverland - new name for band formerly called Neverland

TMZ.com reports that a musical group calling itself “Neverland” has been notified by the estate of Michael Jackson to stop using the NEVERLAND name. The band is a tribute band and plays the music of Michael Jackson all over the San Francisco area.

Michael Jackson

Neverland, as America knows, was the name of Michael Jackson’s home – The Neverland Ranch.

The attorneys for Michael Jackson’s estate are aggressive in defending and protecting the trademarks associated with Michael Jackson’s music and fame. They are right to be this way. Trademarks are valuable business assets. Once they are compromised, tarnished, or diluted, their value decreases.

Here, the NEVERLAND name was being used by a musical group. If this group is allowed to freely use it, others will likely follow and soon, the word NEVERLAND will not be linked to Michael Jackson at all. This is the point of trademark protection – maintaining and strengthening brand identity.

The group has changed its’ name to FOREVERLAND
