Michael Jackson’s Anti-Gravity Shoes

DID YOU KNOW….Michael Jackson was an Inventor?

michael jackson shoe patent drawingDKD Trade reports Mr. Jackson is the co-inventor of United States Patent 5,255,452, for a “method and means for creating anti-gravity illusion.” Translation: special loafers fitted with heels that can slot into the stage floor to allow the wearer to lean forward, Smooth Criminal style, at gravity-defying angles.

These are otherwise known as “Anti-Gravity Shoes” and can be seen in many of Michael’s videos.

Jackson co-developed the technique as an improvement upon a previous method involving rigging people with harnesses and cables to get the leaning effect. This worked fine for videos, but when it came to live performances, well, you can imagine. Didn’t work.

The shoe-based system has the added advantage of “permitting an entertainer to freely move about a stage.” Way to go, Michael! Who would have thought his talents would extend to the field of Intellectual Property?
